Prof. Pascal Fua (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Switzerland)
Pascal Fua received an engineering degree from Ecole Polytechnique, Paris, in 1984 and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Orsay in 1989. He joined EPFL (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) in 1996 where he is a Professor in the School of Computer and Communication Science and head of the Computer Vision Lab. Before that, he worked at SRI International and at INRIA Sophia-Antipolis as a Computer Scientist. His research interests include shape modeling and motion recovery from images, analysis of microscopy images, and Augmented Reality. He has (co)authored over 300 publications in refereed journals and conferences. He has received several ERC grants. He is an IEEE Fellow and has been an Associate Editor of IEEE journal Transactions for Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence. He often serves as program committee member, area chair, and program chair of major vision conferences and has cofounded three spinoff companies.
Prof. Diana Mateus (Centrale Nantes, France)
Diana Mateus is a Full-Professor at “Centrale Nantes,” one of the top engineering schools in France. She is the holder of the MILCOM Chair (Multimodal Image analysis and Learning for COmputational based Medicine), awarded by the local Connect Talent program to attract excellent foreign researchers. The project addresses the design of machine learning methods to improve the acquisition and analysis of medical images in the context of nuclear medicine and ultrasound imaging. Previously, Diana Mateus was a research scientist at the Technical University of Munich (Germany, 2009-2016), where she received the Laura-Bassi award, and at the Helmholtz Zentrum (2011-2015). She holds a PhD in computer vision from INRIA Rhone-Alpes, (Grenoble, France, 2004-2008), funded by a European Marie Curie project. Her previous background includes an MSc. (MsC./DEA) in Automation Systems and Robotics at the LAAS (Toulouse, France, 2003-2004) and a BSc in Electronics Engineering in the Javeriana University (Bogota, Colombia 1996-2002).
Prof. Hiroaki Kawashima (University of Hyogo, Japan)
Hiroaki Kawashima received his PhD in informatics from Kyoto University in 2007. He is currently a professor at the Graduate School of Information Science, University of Hyogo, Japan. He was a JSPS postdoctoral fellow for Research Abroad, and a visiting researcher at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology from 2010 to 2012. His research interests include time-varying pattern recognition, eye-gaze analysis, hybrid dynamical systems, multiagent systems, and human-computer interaction. He is a member of the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE), the Information Processing Society of Japan (IPSJ), and the IEEE.
